NASA broadcast the first-ever live 4K video broadcast from space with astronaut Dr. Peggy Whitson during a special panel held at the NAB Broadcast Show in Las Vegas.

Held as a collaboration of NASA, AWS and the NAB Show, the panel was about how advanced imaging and cloud technologies are taking scientific research and filmmaking to the next level. The live broadcast from an altitude of about 400 km above the Earth was encoded with AWS Elemental encoding software on the International Space Shuttle (ISS) and on the ground at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston.

The live video feed from space allowed astronauts Dr. Peggy Whitson and Jack Fisher on the ISS to speak with Sam Blackman, CEO and co-founder of AWS Elemental who was at the show in Las Vegas.
