The Ministerial Committee for Science and Technology, chaired by Minister Prof. Daniel Hershkowitz, made a series of decisions today (Tuesday). The committee approved the proposals of the Minister of Science and Technology to expand the financing channels of the fund to commemorate the late astronaut Ilan Ramon, to establish a national knowledge center to examine the effect of non-ionizing radiation on public health and to allocate resources to promote research and development activities in Druze society.

According to the first proposal presented by the Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Daniel Hershkovitz to the Committee of Ministers, the fund to commemorate the late Ilan Ramon (in which a number of government ministries participate, allocating NIS XNUMX million in equal parts each budget year for ten years) will allocate scholarships to encourage students and You will carry out or support projects to cultivate quality groups among the youth in Israel while educating for excellence, values ​​and contribution to the community.

The Committee of Ministers approved another proposal by Minister Hershkovitz, according to which the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of the Environment will advance the establishment of a national knowledge center for the study of non-ionizing radiation, in order to examine whether the radiation emitted from high voltage lines and the antennas of the cellular companies exposes the citizens of the country to levels of radiation that endanger their health. The Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Daniel Hershkowitz, and the Minister of the Environment, Gilad Erdan, agreed that in the first stage, their ministries will finance the establishment of the center in equal parts and then ask the Ministry of Finance to participate in a third of the necessary amount.

The committee also approved the proposal to promote research and development activities in Druze society within the Ministry of Science and Technology, including conducting research on topics relevant to Druze society, hiring researchers and purchasing related equipment. This is an additional budget of over one million NIS for two years, which will be financed in equal parts by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Development of the Negev and the Galilee, and the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
