How will we look at today's Israeli scientific achievements in about 30 years? Even then, will today's breakthroughs be milestones for the technology of the future? On the occasion of Scientists' Night, the Ministry of Science and Technology initiated Israel's first scientific time capsule. The project, in collaboration with the National Library, seeks to commemorate the Israeli discoveries and developments of the past decades in thinking about the future.

The time capsule will be deposited in the National Library, which these days is beginning to pour the foundations of its building in its new seat in Jerusalem, all with a technological sign. The capsule, which will be designed by an artist, will include more than 20 items of historical importance that reflect the scientific activity of research institutions and universities in Israel, including notable international achievements of the Nobel Prize, Turing Prize and the Fields Medal.

36 items are up for public selection on the website of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the results will be announced at the Scientists' Night on September 19, which will be held this year at the sign of humanity in 2050 in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and the European Union.

Among the discoveries and developments nominated to enter the scientific time capsule: the Wise app, the world's first electronic ink, the Mobileye system, a robot for brain and spinal surgery, a pill for diagnosing the digestive system, and of course the achievements that led Israeli scientists to win prestigious international awards, such as game theory, the discovery of the structure of the ribosome, the discovery of the structure of crystals Quasi periodic and more.

Science Minister Ofir Akunis: "Ahead of Israel's 70th year, we decided to salute the scientific developments and achievements that have turned Israel into a scientific empire on an international scale. Science and technology march Israel forward, forge collaborations, assist Israeli advocacy and leave an indelible mark. We make sure to develop and provide tools to scientists and research bodies, but also to bring scientific achievements closer to the general public, to make science accessible to all citizens of Israel. Now, we want to make it accessible to future generations, so that everyone knows what our achievements were in the first 70 years."

The Night of the Scientists will be held for the 13th year at the research institutions and science museums and will include a series of meetings, workshops, lectures, experiments and activities for the whole family starting at 17:00 p.m. free of charge.
