Japan and Israel will increase scientific cooperation

Science and Technology Minister Ofir Akunis met with his Japanese counterpart Tosharou Yosuko and the two announced the strengthening of scientific cooperation between the two countries.

Japanese State Minister Tosharou Yosuko, who is also responsible for his country's science policy, came to Israel specifically to meet Science and Technology Minister Ofir Akunis and discuss science and technology and information technology policy. The ministers met last week, on May 4, at Planantania in Netanya, an advanced planetarium and a center for scientific education and Japanese culture that was established in cooperation with Japan.

The ministers discussed the central role that science and technology play in economic growth and in contributing to the quality of life of citizens. The ministers expressed interest in increasing the existing scientific cooperation, and agreed on increasing the sharing of information between the countries on these issues. The ministers also agreed that it is important to carry out additional joint studies to examine the effects of the new technologies in sociological, legal, medical and engineering aspects. The ministers also agreed to work to increase cooperation between the countries in the field of space.
