The Israel Space Agency in the Ministry of Science invites the public to the Israel Space Week events that will deal with Mars this year. Among the activities throughout the country: a futuristic mission track on "Mars", a display of Israeli space developments, observations, workshops for building spacecraft, a planetarium, meetings with astronauts and more. The events from January 29 to February 3, close to the date of the Columbia space shuttle disaster and to commemorate the legacy of the first Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon.

Science and Technology Minister Ofir Akunis said: "Space Week is an opportunity to make science and the galaxies around us accessible to the Israeli public - as far away as possible and as close to home as possible. The Israeli Space Week takes this complex field and translates it into a fun experience. This week is also an opportunity to salute Ilan Ramon, a pioneering man, a role model and a source of Israeli pride."

Among the guests of the week: Richard Arnold - an American teacher who taught children in Arab countries until he became an astronaut at NASA;  Garrett Reisman - former NASA astronaut, the first Jew to stay on the International Space Station and who was the personal friend of the late Ilan Ramon; Tim Peake - from the European Space Agency, the first Briton in space and the first to run a marathon inside a spacecraft. returned to Earth last June; Jean Jacques Fabier - French astronaut with a doctorate in engineering who currently works at the French Atomic Energy Commission.

The Mars mission: The main event of the Israeli Space Week will take place throughout the week in a special complex at the Land of Israel Museum in Tel Aviv. The general public is invited to an experiential adventure in the style of a maze of tasks that will simulate the challenges expected for colonists on Mars. The participants will be able to experience operating a space vehicle and a space arm, learn about food that will be grown on Mars, visit a space laboratory, fly into space in the new planetarium and even meet real astronauts.

The complex will also display models of Israeli satellites and developments in the field of space: the BGUSAT research satellite; satellites that provide wireless internet network coverage around the globe; means of protection against cosmic radiation for use during a long stay in space; Optasat and Taxat satellites of the TAA; Comet launcher and more.

As part of the week's events at the complex, the audience will be able to experience a virtual reality activity of the SpaceIL association - a virtual experience in which the participant takes part in the journey of the first Israeli spacecraft to the moon and operates from launch to landing.

Double star observations at observatories: As part of the observations, the participants will witness the fascinating phenomenon of a sunset followed by another sunset in the sky, get to know the map of the sky, the relationship between the pyramids and constellations and observe the planet Venus. The observations are accompanied by tutorials and lectures on deep space, the study of the stars and the Israeli space program.

Experiential complexes: Experiential space activities will be held in science centers and museums, including: observations through telescopes, a planetarium, entering a real spaceship, recreating an experiment by Ilan Ramon, building and launching rocket models, learning about space suits, examining the challenges for a future colony on Mars, and more.

Among the other Space Week events: The Ilan Ramon International Space Conference, the Ramon Space Olympics, the Ilan Ramon Space Quiz, the finals of the "SpaceLab" competition.
