For the first time, Israel was invited to the conference of the heads of the space agencies

The Director General of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Menachem Greenblum and the Director General of the Israel Space Agency, Dr. Zvi Kaplan will represent Israel at the Space Academy (IAA) conference, held in Washington, DC between November 16-18

The Director General of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Menachem Greenblum and the Director General of the Israel Space Agency, Dr. Zvi Kaplan will represent Israel at the conference at the request of the organizing committee, Dr. Kaplan will present the achievements of the Israel Space Agency to the participants of the conference

The Director General of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Menachem Greenblum, and the Director General of the Israel Space Agency, Dr. Zvi Kaplan, represented Israel at the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) conference, held in Washington, D.C. between November 16-18, 2010. At the request Dr. Kaplan, the organizing committee, will present to the conference attendees the achievements of the Israel Space Agency and its potential contribution in critical issues such as: dealing with the challenge of global warming and natural disasters.

The two are expected to have meetings with the head of NASA and the heads of the space agencies of Italy, France, the European Union and Russia. At the space conference, Israel will present the achievements of the Israeli Space Agency and promote future projects and agreements in a formal and informal way. Also, Israel has significant, extraordinary and unique developments in the space industries of lightweight cameras and sensors and tiny launch satellites. Among other things, Israel also contributed to the development of robots that were used in NASA missions.

The conference is the main event where about 30 heads of space agencies gather, including NASA, the European Union Space Agency (ESA), Russia, China, France, Italy, Japan, Germany, Korea, England, India, Kazakhstan and others. The US Secretary of State, Mrs. Hillary Clinton and the former President of India, Dr. Abdul Kalam will be among the guests of honor.

The Space Academy (IAA) was founded in Stockholm, Sweden, in August 1960, and since then, brings together multidisciplinary international experts in the field of space and astronautics, in order to research, exchange information and develop new technology in space science for civilian purposes. Among the aims of the academy: the cultivation, preservation and development of astronautics for peaceful purposes, recognition of the individual's scientific ability in the development of space-related technologies, organization and implementation of programs, within the framework of which members of the academy can contribute to global cooperation in the study of space sciences, science in general and engineering. This year (2010), the academy is emphasizing the following four topics: manned flights into space, with the help of advanced robots, exploration of the solar system and the depths of the universe, climate change and disaster management. All the heads of the space agencies, participating in the conference, will sign a joint statement to promote these four issues.
