Announcement from the space conference: IAI is developing "Amos E": a lightweight and small communications satellite at a competitive price and with high performance

The Aerospace Industry is in the advanced stages of developing a new communication satellite called "Amos E" that weighs about half the weight of other communication satellites currently on the market.

Amos E, whose lifespan is expected to be about 15 years, will weigh 1.5-2 tons and is designed to provide diverse communication services to different customers according to demand, such as broadband Internet, TV broadcasts, and more. For comparison, the weight of the Amos 6 satellite, which Facebook purchased all of its internet capacity for the next five years from the operator Haval Communications, weighs 5.5 tons.

Amos E will perform maneuvers in space with the help of an electric propulsion system. This innovative propulsion structure is more efficient and smaller compared to the chemical propulsion system accepted today in most communication satellites. This technology allows the weight of the satellite to be reduced by half, and the resulting savings in launch costs due to the reduced weight of the satellite, makes it cheap and attractive for customers who are interested in a cheap communication satellite with performance similar to that of large and expensive satellites.

Ofer Doron, Space Plant Manager of the Aerospace Industry said that: "We are investing a lot of knowledge and thought in order to renew and refresh our supply in the various satellite fields and maintain leadership in them. The product line, which will be based on AmosE, will allow the aerospace industry to develop into new segments in the communications satellite market and offer complete and advanced satellite capability at a competitive price. There is no doubt that the new satellite is already generating a lot of interest among potential customers."

  1. The aviation industry has been suffering for many years from the lack of a marketing policy, mental laziness and many deficiencies in building an engineering reserve.

  2. It is interesting to know how that electric drive system works. If it does not operate on the principle of a rocket engine (release of material in one direction, in order to move in the opposite direction), then what does it actually do?
