Babies born by caesarean section are at higher risk of juvenile diabetes

The study took into account factors such as birth weight, mother's age, order of birth, breastfeeding the baby and other factors related to diabetes in children and yet it was discovered that children born by caesarean section are 20% more likely to develop diabetes

A new study from England states that babies born by caesarean section are at a 20% higher risk of developing juvenile diabetes - type 1 diabetes.

The research group, headed by Dr. Chris Cardwell and Dr. Chris Patterson, reviewed the results of twenty studies from 16 countries. The studies examined around 10,000 children with type 1 diabetes, and over a million healthy children, as a control group.

The surprising result was that children born by caesarean section have a 20% higher chance of having the disease. The study took into account factors such as birth weight, mother's age, order of birth, breastfeeding and other factors related to diabetes in children.

What is the reason for the higher percentage?

"It's important to emphasize that the reason for this is still unclear," says Dr. Cardwell, from the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedicine at Queen's University Belfast. "It is possible that children born by caesarean section differ from other children in some unknown characteristic that increases their risk of developing diabetes. But it is also possible that the caesarean section itself is responsible."

Type 1 diabetes occurs when the body's immune system goes out of control and attacks the body that is consuming it. The cells in the pancreas find themselves under a brutal attack, which wipes out the entire population of insulin-producing cells. According to Cardwell, "...one theory suggests that the development of the immune system is different in babies born by cesarean delivery, because these babies are first exposed to bacteria in the hospital, instead of the mother's bacteria."

Dr. Chris Patterson, his research partner, is more cautious. "The results of the study are interesting, but unless a biological mechanism is proven, it would not be wise to attach too much importance to the link between cesarean sections and diabetes."

Diabetes is a serious disease that, if not treated, can cause fatal complications such as heart disease, strokes, kidney failure and amputations. The Rambam Hospital reported that in 2007, approximately 4,328 births took place, of which 1,069 were cesarean births. That is, almost 25% of the births were cesarean. This rate is significantly higher than the 15% caesarean section rate recommended by the World Health Organization.

Dr. Ian Foster, Director of Diabetes Northern Ireland, United Kingdom, said that, "Not all women have the option to choose whether to give birth by caesarean section, but those who have the choice may choose to consider this risk, before they choose to give birth by caesarean section."

  1. Time will tell.. and keep sending us good articles..
So far the chemical and bio-molecular resonance and the apparently chaotic detections are slowly getting
order and form, even in the strange ways we "walk" here, on the tips of our fingers, and the coils of our minds
    Incredibly transparent..
And a point is found here because "something"...leads to wonder and ask.
So, there are no riddles here????
Well, I missed it from the glass of the other article... sorry.

(Regarding my SMS question, thanks, it worked out.

  2. Oh, Roy, Shabbat Shalom.
To the point, there are interesting conversations in the pages of fascinating articles, and one thing leads to another, like
The second one woven here..you are the good leader, flow with us.
Don't you like riddles?? I do, and for many years.

  3. You're right, she was born in the Empire of Heaven, as of today, and like Yotam, from our knowledge, the wise, and Hachem.
To the fate of lineages... long and winding, up to the very. very. length of the monstrous spaghetti.. that you contributed
By cracking his riddle, if only in a number of points, as you do in the sacred, in science...
But, maybe you will find a replacement... like Hated, from our knowledge... that has thorns, and no fruits.

  4. It seems to me that this article comes as a signal and a hint to all the girls who are transitioning to motherhood... to start giving back
the healthy and right mind for themselves.
A caesarean section is intended for critical situations only, when there is a confirmed suspicion of fetal distress, or
Haas, even in a woman giving birth, like, gestational diabetes, which is only temporary.
It is known that girls try in different ways to "target" the birth date of the newborn to a certain time
It seems to them - a good day - a lucky one. It sometimes borders on nonsense, sorry, of seemingly free people
Those who confuse and perhaps insult, every day, as it is, is blessed, if you bless it.
As far as I know, the doctors themselves who are not willing to take responsibility by usurping responsibility from the patients, and in order not to be "blamed".. allow this "choice" for maternity..
In short, as long as nature knows how to do its job, and you are full partners in its wonders, you will benefit.
All the progress of science, comes to help, only in cases, when almost tools are used all summers, but its actions are not supposed to be automatic.
Think about it.. Nature also has lofty and correct thoughts, when you try with all your might to outsmart it
He may show his negative results as well, in which case he should not be blamed.
