An international professional conference with the participation of the best experts, and an exhibition, which includes the latest medical innovations, will be part of the annual meeting of the life sciences industry in Israel. This year, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the State of Israel, "ILSI-Biomed Israel 2008" will give a central stage to the 70 most advanced Israeli start-up companies. Biomed week is expected to attract this year over 6,000 CEOs and executives of biopharma and medical device companies, scientists and researchers, venture capital fund managers and angel investors, from Israel and abroad. The event, which has already gained international recognition and is considered one of the largest in the global industry, will be held between Tuesday and Thursday, May 27-29, 2008, at the David Intercontinental and Dan Panorama hotels in Tel Aviv.

The conference will present the prospects and risks that exist in the global biomed industry, and emphasis will be placed on business-practical aspects, and less on medical-scientific aspects. This is so that all those attending the conference can understand - what is needed from a start-up biomed company in order to succeed in the global industry. At the same time as Biomed Week, two other events will be held: the 2nd International Conference on Stem Cell Research, and the ISRACAS 2008 Conference, the 11th Conference on Computer-Based Surgery, Medical Robotics and Medical Imaging.

"This is the largest annual event for the local biomed industry and among the leading events in the world today. This is a great opportunity to both show Israeli technological progress and innovation and to forge new deals," says Moshe Lilos, CEO of "Conference of Exhibitions" which produces the conference and the exhibition.

The chairmen of the organizing committee are: Ruthi Alon, a partner in the Pitango venture capital fund, and chairperson of the Israel Life Science Industry (ILSI), which she founded in 2005, and Israel Makov, former president and CEO of Teva, one of the leaders The economy and the pioneers of the biotech industry in Israel, and currently the chairman of the medical equipment company Givan Imaging of the IDB Group.

According to Ruthi Alon: "Our goal is to bring to Israel as many investors from abroad, business development managers and delegations from the US, Europe and the East, so we chose to present the 'hottest' and most mature Israeli start-up companies, which are either in the sales phase or in the testing phase the clinical ones".
"I believe that the new technologies and the interaction between the companies presenting to the thousands of visitors - investors from venture capital funds and angels - will create additional leverage for the local industry", concludes Israel Makov.
