An achievement for the State of Israel in the Chemistry Olympiad for high school students held in St. Petersburg, Russia. The members of the Israeli team in chemistry that took part in the competition are: Ron Shaprinz, Bar Shafer, Ron Refali, Hillel Shohat, Hagar Hoffman and Roy Parr.

Roy Par, an XNUMXth grade student from Kfar Hirok in Ramat Hasharon won a bronze medal, at the end of a challenging competition consisting of a theoretical part and a practical part.

The 53rd Mendeleev World Chemistry Olympiad is a prestigious Olympiad, in which high school students from all over Asia and Eastern Europe take part. This year, 150 students from 29 different countries participated in the competition in St. Petersburg. Israel has been participating since 2016.

The Ministry of Education and the Center for Future Scientists of the Maimonides Foundation lead the training of students to participate in the Science Olympiads as part of a joint venture. The group of students that participated in the Olympiad was trained at the Technion, at the Shulich Faculty of Chemistry. This enterprise is headed by Prof. Zeev Gross and the main trainer is Dr. Izna Nigel Ettinger, who trained and coached dozens of students from which the members of the delegation were chosen. Dr. Avital Lahav is in charge of the administrative management and there was also an impressive mobilization of the chemistry faculty. The student delegation to the competition was accompanied by Ms. Gabriela Halevi, director of the general chemistry laboratory at the Technion, Raz Lotan, team training assistant, and Dagan Ashash, educational advisor for the Israeli science teams.

The Ministry of Education and the Center for Future Scientists congratulated the win and said that Roy is a model of effort, determination and excellence. They added that they will continue to work together and in partnership to give the students the best quality tools, which will help them break through and reach the top.
