For computer science: In the competition that ended tonight, Wednesday, in Australia, the Israeli team won four Olympic medals: 1. gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze. The Ministry of Education stated that this is the team's best achievement since Israel began participating in international competitions

The gold medal was won by Daniel Hadas (18.5) from "Ayalon" high school in Holon. The silver medals were won by Tom Calvary (17), a student of the "Green Village" high school in Ramat Hasharon and Ohad Klein (17), a student of Yeshiva Amit, Kfar Ganim. Ron Rivchin (18), a student of "Ort Hashamron" from Benjamin won a bronze medal.

The Computer Science Olympiad lasted four days. At the end, Israel was ranked eighth out of 80 countries. This is an impressive jump of 9 places in the world ranking compared to 2012. In 2011 Israel was ranked 19th and in 2010 Israel was only 23rd.

The winner of the gold medal, Daniel Hadas said excitedly: "It's a great feeling, I can't say I expected a gold medal, I was lucky and I'm very happy about the achievement." His teammate Tom Calvary added: "We worked very hard on it, on the first day it seemed for a moment that we weren't successful, but on the second day we picked ourselves up, put in a lot of effort and managed to reach very respectable places."

Oren Becker, who coaches the team together with Yonatan Moshiov, noted that "the achievement of the students is particularly impressive in light of the fact that on the first day we suffered from a technical fault that affected our success. Fortunately for us, on the second day, the students fought with all their might and despite the difficulties they climbed up and won a beautiful and honorable achievement."

Ofer Rimon, head of the Science and Technology Directorate at the Ministry of Education, explains: "In recent years, we have put more emphasis on the establishment of the International Olympics, starting from the detection phase and through the training phases. It seems that the hard and systematic work is beginning to bear fruit and we will make efforts to continue climbing to the world summit."

    The state of education in Israel is collapsing and the Ministry of Education is busy with competitions that the Israeli citizen will not see a shekel from.
    Maybe it's better to invest in education instead of competing?
