A Category 3 hurricane named Earl washed over the entire East Coast of the United States on September 2, 2010. This image was taken by the Helvin Terra satellite as the storm moved about 400 kilometers south of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.

Figure 4 (A) MRI scans showed differences in the brains of rats after spatial learning in an area known to be associated with this learning (the hippocampus). An enlargement of the hippocampus area appears in the right image. (B) Histological stainings with an astrocyte-specific marker showed significant differences between the trained and untrained group. It is possible that the learning caused an increase in the density and a change in the structure of these cells, and consequently affected the indices extracted from the images.
