One of the recipients of the scholarship is Vivian Salon, from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, who examines how the extraction of DNA from the remains of ancient hominids contributed significantly to our understanding of human evolution. (pictured), of a new group of ancient hominids that were relatives of Neanderthal man and lived in Asia.
