Joseph Rapoport was a decorated combat officer and pioneering geneticist. After refusing to submit to the pseudoscientific teachings of Trofim Lysenko, he was expelled from the Communist Party and from his scientific work. Years later, he returned to research and was one of the founders of the field of genetics.

If the distance from the North Pole to the equator is about 10,000 kilometers, the circumference of the equator on a flat disk should be about 62,800 kilometers. In reality, only about 40,075 kilometers are measured – just as expected from a body
