The Minister of Health, Danny Neve, yesterday included the atypical pneumonia (SARS) in the list of dangerous diseases. This, despite the fact that no one has been diagnosed with the disease in Israel yet. The disease has been affecting the world since November and originates in Asia.

The meaning of Noah's decision is that according to the Public Health Ordinance, SARS is a dangerous epidemic disease, and there is a serious danger to public health. Such a notification allows taking extraordinary measures, which are necessary if necessary, to prevent the spread of the disease. SARS is a disease that requires close contact in order to be infected, and it is still unclear whether the disease is also contagious through the air. At least half of the patients in the world are members of the medical staff, a higher rate than any other infectious disease.

At the Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, a woman in her twenties who returned four days ago from China, suffering from fever and cough, was hospitalized yesterday for observation. In accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of Health in the case of patients suspected of having SARS, the woman was hospitalized in isolation. The spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Ido Hadari, said that her general condition is "very good". Fever and cough are two of the symptoms of SARS. This is the fourth case of an Israeli patient who is hospitalized due to suspected SARS. In the previous cases, it turned out that there was no connection between the patients and the disease, and they were released from the hospital a few days later.

Meanwhile, there has been an increase in the number of deaths worldwide from SARS. The health authorities in Hong Kong announced yesterday that five more people died from the disease and another 42 people were infected with it. This is the highest increase in the number of deaths from SARS in Hong Kong in several weeks. Hong Kong is the second country in the world after China in the number of victims of SARS. At least 40 people in the country have died from it, and the number of patients there reaches more than 1,150.
According to the data of the World Health Organization, updated as of Tuesday, about 3,000 people have contracted the disease so far, and about 130 have died from it. About half of the patients have already recovered from the disease. Singapore and Canada reported three more deaths in each country yesterday. The disease itself has so far appeared in 20 countries and first broke out in Guangdong province in southern China. According to official data, the number of dead from SARS in China since November is at least 58 people, and the number of sick people reaches more than 1,300 people, but it is estimated that the real number of casualties in China is much higher.

The SARS outbreak is also taking its toll on the tourism industry. Many airlines are forced to cancel scheduled flights to Asia. The Hong Kong airline announced that its losses since the beginning of the outbreak reach three million dollars every day, and its volume of operations is currently at a third of normal. According to data from the Hong Kong Airports Authority, the number of passengers in the last few days in the country decreased by about 60%
The Singapore government announced yesterday that it will reopen schools in the country in the next two days. Elementary and high schools in the country were closed for the past two and a half weeks, in an attempt to control the outbreak of the disease.
