The initiative to establish an Israeli space association, which was first published in "Yaden", is gaining momentum. The people of the future association launched two new initiatives this week.
The first initiative is to collect signatures from Israeli space enthusiasts, appealing to the cable and satellite companies to include the nasa TV channel in the basket of channels offered in Israel. The nasa tv channel is the official channel of NASA, the American space agency, broadcasting 24 hours a day images from the space station, space shuttles, ground centers, launches and special interviews. In Israel, the channel can only be received via the Internet, while abroad it can be received via satellite TV.
"If the cable and satellite companies see that there are many applicants for the channel, they will buy it and broadcast it in Israel. Not only is this a pure pleasure for every space and science enthusiast, it is also a device of great educational value." say the founders of the association, and invite the public to sign the petition via the Internet, at the address:

Alternatively, the founders of the association invite the public to contact the cable and satellite companies directly, via the Internet or mail.
Another initiative of the association's founders is to collect signatures calling on the Knesset's Science Committee to hold an urgent discussion after the elections on Israel's partnership in the International Space Station.
"We do not intend to neglect this issue. The distance between Israel and the front line of scientific-technological progress, which is the International Space Station, is 5 million dollars a year, a simply ridiculous amount compared to space budgets. We intend to ensure that such a discussion is convened to make sure that the Minister of Science and Education fulfills its commitment locate the necessary budgets."
