The green trend combined with the high energy prices brought the world's largest car manufacturer General Motors to a strategic decision to invest in small energy-saving engines. 370 million dollars will be invested in the establishment of a new factory in North America where 4 cylinder engines will be produced. According to the company's statement, the construction of the plant will begin immediately and is expected to be completed in 2010.

The factory will produce 2 types of engines - a 1.4 liter turbo engine for the Chevrolet Cruze and a regular 1.4 liter engine for the Chevy Volt hybrid. The company's goal is to double the amount of small engines with low fuel consumption and capture a larger market share in the 4-cylinder engine niche by 2011.

The company states that the 1.4 liter turbo engines show the company's commitment to produce vehicles with low fuel consumption without compromising performance. The new 1.4 liter turbo engines will be as powerful as larger engines, but as efficient as the smaller engines.

In addition to the savings in fuel consumption that the new engines will present, the company announces that the plant will be built according to green criteria, and that the unique form of construction chosen will not produce construction waste that will be thrown into landfills, but will be recycled or used for energy production.

General Motors is the largest car manufacturer in the world, in 2007 alone the company produced over 9.37 million cars and trucks. The statement points to a positive direction in which the major corporations in the US are walking after years of ignoring the environmental aspect of their products. Failure to take into account consumer demands and global trends have resulted in damage to profitability and now company managers are trying to present green positions and produce economical vehicles.

It is important to emphasize that the change did not come from within the American automobile industry itself but with the encouragement of the government. The inferiority of the American automobile industry against the Japanese manufacturers in the field of economical engines pushed the American administration to assist to manufacturers in loans totaling $25 billion, provided they improve the fuel economy of their future models by 25% or more.

The success of the Japanese automobile industry in the production of hybrid models proved to the American government that investment in the field is worthwhile not only from an environmental point of view but also from an economic point of view, and when companies of the size of General Motors move in this direction - the profit is all ours.

  1. Finally the American industry understands that the world must follow greener ways, what they don't understand through the brain ends up through the pocket.

I hope Obama will get Americans back on track.

  2. Toyota:
What you said is a bluff.
All the measurements show that the Toyota Prius consumes less fuel even in the city (and what's the wonder? When you stop at a traffic light, the engine is turned off, when you hit the brakes, the battery is charged, etc.).
This is also my personal experience - yes - what to do? When there is personal experience, all theories take on different proportions.
Customer satisfaction surveys place the Prius at the top of the satisfaction list and by a large margin compared to its competitors.
Of course, conspiracy theories will continue to flourish and the fact that experts all over the world have reached clear conclusions is not a consideration for their inventors.

  3. Hybrid cars are a bluff,
The fuel consumption of a Prius is not significantly economical in the city - and really bad on intercity trips (high weight due to heavy batteries) and there is still no clear attitude in the world regarding the pollution of the large amount of batteries in each car at the end of the battery's life.

  4. The car manufacturers in the world must reach a strategic decision to invest in accumulators/batteries

They must reach a specific weight, a minimum specific volume for a maximum energy unit
So we won't feel any difference in an electric car compared to a gasoline engine nation.
The accumulator/battery could be a fuel cell or anything else not petroleum based

Dependence on oil must be minimized.

  5. Cars are not produced in Israel, but it is worth noting that our government actually addresses the issue and has given concessions on the taxation of hybrid family vehicles.
The importers still steal as always but the favorable taxation means that the price of the Toyota Prius is not much higher than the price of other family cars.

  6. A bunch of retards.
At the time (about a year ago?) Bush tried to change the law that dictates to the automobile industry the average fuel consumption per kilometer - so that the cars would be more economical, but the industry resisted and put a stop to it.
Now that the automobile industry is stealing - not from the president, but from the consumer, who buys fewer cars and is looking for economical cars, they remembered to develop engines, which will be ready in 2011. Thank you very much indeed. We need solutions today - and we will probably buy cars from other manufacturers.

The basic sin in the matter is that America did not encourage, like Europe or Norway, the economical use of fuel by increasing the taxes on it. This is one of the reasons that their economy is suffering now.
Maybe their next president will be able to do everything Bush didn't do.

  7. Boaz, I don't agree with you. The weight is an important parameter but it is not the only one. And if you build a new engine for an American car, I guess the weight of the vehicle is taken into account.

  8. The question is also how much the car will weigh. Because if this engine is connected to a several-ton monster, as the Americans know how to do, then there is no real innovation here.
