Preliminary competitions will be held at the end of March and beginning of April, while the final will be held on May 5 in Hamada. The winner will win a laptop, a flight to the science festival in Chatham and a conference of young scientists in Istanbul
The race has begun for scientists who are talented in explaining science to the general public. Faim Love - the international competition in which the participants are asked to explain an issue in science for three minutes, seeks to find new voices in science and engineering in Israel.
Now, for the second year in a row, Peim Lab Israel is looking for young scientists who are enthusiastic about science and want to share their excitement with the general public. The unique competition was a success in Britain and Europe, including Israel, and now the British Council, the initiator of the event, hopes to make it bigger and better.
The FameLab Israel competition is part of Beautiful Science, the regional science project of the British Council in Southeast Europe.
Those interested in participating can register for one of the preliminary competitions:
March 31, 2008, at Hamada - the Center for Scientific Education in Tel Aviv
April 1, 2008, at the Haifa Technion
April 3, 2008, at the Bloomfield Science Museum, Jerusalem
The final will be held on May 5, 2008, in Hamada, Tel Aviv
The winner will win a laptop as well as a trip to the Science Festival in Cheltenham, UK, June 2008; participation in a meeting of young scientists from around Europe in Istanbul; and in a specialization workshop in scientific communication.
Holders of a bachelor's degree in science, engineering, mathematics or medicine who are engaged in their field of study may apply, and present in Hebrew a scientific topic of their choice in 3 minutes.

warmly recommended. Even if you don't think you speak well in front of an audience, come participate and hear the other competitors. I personally participated in a competition in Tel Aviv a year ago and heard plenty of fascinating and entertaining science stories, and even improved my presentation skills in front of an audience.
Even if you don't want to come as a competitor, you should come as an audience, if only for the second round held in the evening of each regional competition.
