The image shows the distribution of ice on the surface of the Moon's South Pole (left) and North Pole (right), as observed by NASA's Lunar Mapper. The blue color represents the locations of the ice deposits, the gray color marks the surface temperature ( dark representing cold areas and light shades indicating warm areas). The ice is concentrated in the darkest and coldest places, on the crater floors.
