A joint statement of intent was signed between the Israeli Space Agency and NASA

Minister of Science: "Israel, despite its size, is a world leader in space, and can contribute to the cooperation with NASA. The meeting with Bolden was very successful, and I am happy about the strengthening of relations with NASA"

During a meeting held last week between the head of NASA, Charles Bolden, and the Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Daniel Hershkowitz, the Director of the Space Agency, Dr. Zvi Kaplan, signed a memorandum of understanding to expand the cooperation between NASA and Israel in space activities shared. The joint statement is the fruit of a dialogue, which began with Bolden's visit in January of this year, at the fifth Ilan Ramon Space Conference.

The two agencies agreed to jointly locate new joint activities, related to earth and space sciences, life sciences, space exploration and other areas in which there is common interest. The main goal is to expand the exchange of information and to inspire the next generation of researchers, scientists and engineers.

Charles Bolden said that "We welcome the developing strategic cooperation with Israel, Israel is one of the anchor countries in NASA's cooperation with other countries, we will consider expanding the cooperation system in the areas of additional applications in space exploration and the development of integrated technologies"

Minister of Science, Prof. Daniel Hershkowitz: "Israel, despite its size, is a world leader in the field of space, and can contribute to the cooperation with NASA. The meeting with Bolden was very successful, and I am happy about the strengthening of relations with NASA"

The head of the Israel Space Agency, Dr. Zvi Kaplan: "The Americans are very interested in the technology of manufacturing lightweight satellites, which can be launched from airplanes, with hyperspectral sensing means and satellite antennas for analyzing photographs using radar. This is within the framework of the mapping of the star Vega, which NASA will carry out in the future , and Israeli teams will participate in this mission." During Minister Hershkovitz's visit, he learned about the plane crash, in which he was killed The senator

Stevens and the former head of NASA, Sean O'Keefe and his son, were seriously injured. Minister Hershkowitz conveyed his condolences and wishes for a speedy recovery to O'Keefe and his son, on behalf of the State of Israel and the Ramon family.

As a reminder, in January of this year, Israel officially joined the NASA initiative on lunar and planetary research with the participation of research groups from Ben-Gurion University and the Technion. Among the research subjects, in which the Israeli researchers are partners, are intersatellite communication using laser systems and issues of control and management of satellite cluster systems moving in space in a coordinated way to perform complex tasks.

Israel's achievements in the field of space, and especially in the field of observations towards the Earth using optical photography satellites and innovative and lightweight radar photography satellites, create opportunities for joint research with other countries, led by the United States, for the application of Israeli technology in future scientific projects for the study of the solar system, the planets, and For observations towards celestial objects (pulsating source nebulae, black holes and others) located in the depths of the universe.

Also, Minister Hershkovitz, the director general of the ministry, Menachem Greenblum and the director of the space agency, Dr. Zvi Kaplan, met with the head of the National Academy of Sciences in the USA, Dr. Ralph Cicerone and with the director of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Dr. Cora B. Marrett. And we discussed possibilities for expanding cooperation between Israel and the US at the federal level.
