The American Food and Drug Administration, the FDA, chose the tiny sticker sensor developed by the Wiliot company as one of the most promising technologies in the world for monitoring the preservation of food quality and freshness throughout the entire transportation process from the manufacturer to the customer's home.
The selection of Wiliot took place within the framework of the first competition of its kind, the New Era of Smarter Food Safety, during which a series of indicators were examined such as a uniform and smooth level of surveillance at no cost on the part of the customer and thus the ability to provide a smart solution that integrates into the supply chain independently and at no cost on the part of the end consumer.
Today, every year about 48 million people get sick as a result of eating unfresh food, which leads to hospitalization of 128,000 patients and 3,000 deaths. In light of these data, the FDA found advanced technological solutions that will help monitor food freshness by encouraging manufacturers to adopt innovative real-time monitoring technologies to ensure food quality and safety.
Wiliot IoT Pixels is a tiny and consumable computer, manufactured at a low cost, which can be attached to any product or packaging. Thus, it actually becomes a sensor that monitors various physical and environmental data through the use of artificial intelligence. In this way, it is possible to identify damaged edible products in a targeted manner and thus to identify in advance problematic points in the transportation process as well as to save unnecessary waste of food.
