Two weeks have passed since the intense earthquake that created huge waves that caused the death of more than 150 thousand people in South Asia. Today it turns out that the earthquake, which reached a magnitude of 9, is still affecting the earth.
According to researchers at the Australian National University, the earth vibrates repeatedly following the earthquake and that the vibrations resemble the ringing of a bell, only without the noise.
"These are not things that will be thrown off the chair, but the devices around the world pick them up all the time," said researcher Rabbi McQueen. "This is beyond the level of vibrations that the Earth is used to."
McQueen explained that the vibrations are weakening and at the current stages they reach a vertical millimeter vertical displacement of the Earth. Immediately after the great earthquake, fluctuations of 20 to 30 centimeters were recorded in relation to the movement.
"Because this earthquake was 10 times the magnitude of normal large earthquakes, the tremors are still going on," McQueen said. "As it seems, the fluctuations will continue for a few more weeks."
Immediately after the earthquake, American scientists said that the noise caused the earth to move off its axis and shortened the length of days by about a fraction of a second.
