Professor Yitzhak Apluig, former president of the Technion, was elected to the Academy of Arts and Sciences of the USA, which is celebrating its 230th anniversary this year and is considered one of the most prestigious academies in the world. Among its members are scientists, writers, artists, leaders, heads of companies, winners of the Nobel Prize and the Pulitzer Prize. Because Professor Apluig was chosen for his "leadership in the field of chemistry".

The president of the Technion, Professor Peretz Lavi, congratulated Professor Afluig and thanked him for the honor he brings to the Technion.

The Academy was founded in 1780 by John Adams and his friends. Among its members, since its establishment - George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Daniel Webster, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, 250 Nobel Prize winners and 60 Pulitzer Prize winners.

The enormous diversity of its members allows them to conduct long-term interdisciplinary studies. Today it is mainly engaged in research in the field of science and technology, global security, social policy, culture and education.
