The Economic Society of Haifa has begun a feasibility study for the establishment of a biotechnological park

The company that established the Matam Industrial Park is preparing to create a partnership with Rambam Hospital, academic and medical centers, the Municipality of Haifa and the Boston community

The Haifa Economic Company is promoting the establishment of a biotechnological park, similar to the Matam Park which specializes in high-tech. Matam was established by the Economic Company in South Haifa and is currently managed in equal partnership with the Gab-Yam company.

In the economic company, it was decided that the new park, which is in the phase of a feasibility study, will be established in stages, with the first stage focusing the new park on medical device development companies.

It was reported that yesterday (Wednesday, February 1.2.05, XNUMX) a working meeting of the professional staff was held at the Economic Society, with the participation of academics, representatives from the Rambam Hospital, representatives of the Haifa Municipality and members of the Boston-Haifa Partnership Fund.

At the meeting, it was decided to establish a steering committee to accompany the project. In addition, an advisory scientific committee was established, whose role is to exhaust the scientific advantages that exist in Haifa and its surroundings.

"A survey conducted by the economic society indicates a great potential in the biotechnology and life sciences industry in our region, which is not being realized," said the CEO of the economic society Avi Pepperkorn, who added that "the findings fit into the trend of industrial parks specializing in a distinct professional field, which confers advantages to size and produces added values".

The chairman of the economic society, Hanoch Vinikamin, stated that "the economic society seeks to create a platform for the economic development of the unused potential. The two scientists, winners of the Nobel Prize from the Technion, are an example of Haifa researchers who worked for years with international success, under a veil of media anonymity. We believe that a concentration of those companies will help create employment sources in Haifa and promote the prestige of the city, as we did in Matam."
