China ordered last night (Saturday) to close all entertainment venues until a way is found to prevent the spread of the disease. Among other things, cinema and theater halls, karaoke bars and internet cafes were closed. China announced today that the number of Sars patients rose to 2,914 after 161 more citizens contracted the disease. Today nine more people died from the disease. So far 131 SARS patients have died in China. The first victim of the disease died in Taiwan this morning. Yesterday, a team of experts at a conference in London estimated that about 10% of those with the disease will die from it, compared to the 5-6% mortality recorded so far. However, the scientists also estimated that the disease is not contagious as they initially thought. The health ministers of the Asian countries met yesterday in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia to discuss the spread of SARS.
