A large-scale experiment conducted in the UK put an end to the long-standing debate about who is better at math - men or women. The 18 participants proved unequivocally that women are better than men at performing basic arithmetic operations. The reason, it seems, is simply related to the structure of their brains - which is better suited to this type of action.

The scientific center in Bristol had no difficulty recruiting volunteers for the experiment. Every visitor who came to the place stood in front of an interactive screen and was asked to count the number of points that appeared on the screen - at the highest speed. The magazine "New Scientist" reported that in an experiment it was discovered that women are much faster in basic calculation of a small number of items. However, their initial advantage did not last long - when the visitors were asked to identify more than five dots on the screen - the results became equal.

Advertisement The study confirmed a scientific idea that existed already 50 years ago, according to which there are two systems in the brain for performing invoicing operations. The first one estimates the number of items the person is viewing, without counting them. For example, if we look at a table with coins on it - we can estimate their number without counting them. The second system is a learned calculation method, by which a buyer
The person has basic mathematical tools such as addition and subtraction.

The researchers hope that the results of the experiment will help to solve the learning problems of children prone to dyslexia, and claim that the research backs up the exam data in the UK - which reflect the mathematical superiority of girls.
