The American space agency (NASA) warned in mid-April about the collapse of glaciers in Peru. Based on photographs taken from space, the space agency said that there is a fear of the stability of the glaciers in the Andes, which could cause damage to the Rio Santa Valley region and the city of Juarez.

NASA's warning mainly concerned the fear of flooding in the Lake Palacocha area and eruptions of mud, ice and rocks from internal water reservoirs inside the glaciers. As far as is known, the warning of the American space agency did not deal with fear for the lives of mountain climbers in Peru, but mainly with a warning of the possibility of Harm to residents as a result of flooding.

NASA's warnings are based on information coming from the "Terra" satellite, which monitors geological developments on Earth. NASA officials said, at the time of the warning's publication, that they had forwarded the information to the Peruvian authorities, so that they could compare it with information collected on the ground and evaluate the the intensity of the danger.
