After a record three days of bad weather in the eastern US in general and at the landing site in Florida in particular, the space shuttle Endeavor landed in Florida bringing with it the three former crew members of the International Space Station who spent six months in space.
The landing took place on midnight, 7/12/2002 at 14:38 PM Eastern Time, 21:38 PM Israel Time (a quarter of an hour before writing these lines).
NASA was determined to land the shuttle, if not in Florida then at least in California (although then it costs about 3 million dollars to bring it to Florida). When it was decided to land, the control room people woke up the seven astronauts (two of them cosmonauts) with Perry Como's poem: "I'll be home for Christmas."
After the weather over Cape Canaveral calmed down, the control center ordered the shuttle pilots to direct it to home port. Thick clouds prevented Endeavor from landing the previous three days and thus as mentioned a record was set in all over a hundred flights so far for delaying the end of a mission.
The Endeavor will land only on Saturday and maybe later due to the severe weather in the eastern US

The space shuttle Endeavor may land only tomorrow, Saturday 6/12/2002 after it already left the International Space Station on Monday. Since Wednesday, the Endeavor has been prevented from landing in Florida due to the severe weather and the storm that has been raging for several days in the entire East Coast region of the USA.
So far, the storm has caused the disconnection of a million residents from the electricity grid in the two Carolinas, and blizzards in Washington and New York.
The spacecraft is stuck in space for the third day, which is the 14th day of the flight, and the 185th day of the three crew members of the International Space Station returning to Earth on Endeavour, after leaving behind the new crew members who took off on Endeavour from Earth.
NASA regretted the delay preventing the three from returning to Earth already.
Endeavor left the space station on its way to Earth after installing new systems on the space station and replacing the crew
Ten astronauts and cosmonauts aboard the International Space Station and the Space Shuttle Endeavor had a great time before parting ways.
The space shuttle Endeavor said goodbye to the International Space Shuttle on Monday evening and is bringing home one American and two Russians who spent six months on the International Space Station. Two Americans and one Russian who arrived at the Endeavor station will remain there as the next permanent crew until March.
After three spacewalks in three days, the astronauts enjoyed a free day on Sunday. For John Harrington, the first American Indian in space, the flight proved the opportunities to see what it means to fly at a speed of about 30 thousand kilometers above the earth at an altitude of about 500 km. "It's a very long way home," Harrington said.
During the construction of the station, several malfunctions occurred. The most prominent among them was in the trolley that is supposed to move the robotic arm on a track at the International Space Station. Two astronauts managed to complete a seven-hour spacewalk last night.
Endeavor astronauts John Harrington and Michael Lopez-Alegria began their spacewalk on Saturday at two in the afternoon EST (nine p.m. Israel time), their first task was to free the stuck car.
Within an hour the cause of the malfunction was found and the spacewalk continued slightly behind schedule.
An aid vehicle to the space station got stuck during a test run and was rescued an hour later
Earlier, NASA stated that a car needed to complete the construction of the International Space Station got stuck yesterday during a test run. The car, which weighs two tons, travels on a 17-meter-long track. Its main task is to move the station robot, which is six stories high, from one work site to another.
The "mobile carrier", which cost 190 million dollars, stopped working about 10 minutes after it was activated. Trying to restart it using computer commands did not go well. An astronaut is sent to the car to try to discover the source of the problem. This is the first test drive of the shuttle, which is essential for the continuation of construction work on the space station.
