It is possible that the lung disease is spread by cockroaches

Disease researchers in Hong Kong said the spread of the disease through insects in the sewage system explains its rapid spread in one district on the island.

Experts in Hong Kong, who study the atypical pneumonia (SARS) and try to explain the spread of the disease, said Tuesday (Monday) that it is possible that cockroaches that passed through the sewage system are responsible for the transmission of the disease from apartment to apartment on the island.

The deputy director of Hong Kong's Ministry of Health, Leung Pakin, said that the cockroach theory explains how the disease spread among the apartment buildings in the Kowloon district, where 300 new cases of the disease were discovered within a few days.

The disease is also transmitted through close contact between humans. Over half of the patients are members of the medical staff, medical students and their families. However, this cannot explain the spread of the disease in the Kowloon district, which was quarantined after the discovery of many cases of the disease among its residents.

At least a hundred people have died worldwide from pneumonia. In Hong Kong, at the beginning of the week, several more deaths were recorded as a result of it.
