American researchers claim to have succeeded in developing a suitable kidney-like organ produced from cloned cow embryos. If your claim is correct, this is the first time that scientists have been able to realize the hopes they had in cloning technology, and use it to create an organ that will not be rejected by the body's immune system, as is the case with transplants done today. Scientists who did not participate in the study expressed skepticism about the significance of the findings.
The study was reported yesterday by the "Washington Post" newspaper. But the researchers, a team from the American biotechnology company "Cell Technology Advanced" have not yet published their findings and working methods in a scientific journal, an accepted procedure among scientists, which allows the scientific community to evaluate findings and try to reproduce them.
In creating the kidney, the researchers used stem cells extracted from a cow's embryo. The embryo is created by cloning, by uniting an egg and a cell from the cow's body. Such embryonic stem cells have not yet differentiated into one of the various types of cells that make up the body, and can, in principle, transform into all types of cells.
