The Iridan company, which specializes in the development of biometric technology, recently began the process of establishing a large-scale global database, which will contain information on the irises of the world's population. The final goal in establishing this database is to produce a kind of worldwide identity card for every person, from every country, so that it can be used for identification purposes such as: buying plane tickets, crossing borders, getting smart cards and more. This process is important both for security needs and to facilitate bureaucratic processes.
For the purpose of implementing this complex project, the Iridan company turned to its representatives around the world such as: Comada in Israel, representatives in the USA, Europe and more, with a request to receive from them databases that exist in their country, with existing iris samples.
The new server, which will contain the data, is called the Know who server, and has an incredible data processing capacity. The server is fed in all iris templates and from them it generates code. This is an amazing decoding capability, which does not exist in any other database. Using this code, the system is able to identify the specific person against the wide database, according to the pre-entered iris.
Lior Yotam, Vice President of Business Development at Komada, said: "The Iridan company has developed an algorithm that accurately and quickly can translate a video image of the iris into a mathematical code. Iridan's algorithm provides the possibility of performing an exhaustive and thorough search of the same mathematical code, from a large database in a short time of two seconds. This technology was developed after it was scientifically proven that no two irises in the entire world are visually identical, therefore there is no possibility of misidentification. According to these data, it can be said with certainty that this large-scale project of the Iridan company is reliable and capable of achieving its goal."
