The oldest person in the world apparently lives in war-torn Chechnya. The representatives of the health system in the separatist Russian Republic claim that Zbani Khachukaeva, 124 years old, is the oldest woman in the world. If her age is verified, then she is nine years older than the person who was considered the oldest until now - Kamato Hongo Mipan.
Khachukayaeva, a devout Muslim from the Achkoy-Martan district of southwestern Chechnya, is said to be still alive and in good health, although her hearing has been damaged. Chechnya's deputy health minister, Sultan Alimakhdzeev, said Khachukayaeva has 24 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. He told the Russian news agency Interfax that doctors believe she is even older than the age indicated on her passport. "Despite her advanced age, she still works at home,

"takes care of her many offspring, and prays five times a day," the agency reported. Alimakhadziev said that she outlived her eldest son, who died two years ago, but her youngest son is still alive and has ten children.
Until now, the title of oldest woman in the world was held by Kamato Hongo - who was born in 1887 on the island of Tokunshima in southern Japan - she is supposed to celebrate her 116th birthday this September. The title passed to her in March last year, after the death of Maud Paris-Los from the USA.
Hongo, confined to her bed and in need of continuous care, slept for days in a row and then was awake for two days. She enjoys drinking a glass of saki, a Japanese rice wine, and moves her hands in the traditional dance movements of her native island. Her recipe for longevity is "not to worry too much."
The oldest man is also Japanese. Former silkworm breeder Yukichi Chuganji, from the island of Kyushu, 112 years old. It is said that he hates vegetables but likes to eat meat and drink milk.
