The title, which was awarded to Kahn as part of the events of the 52nd Board of Trustees of the University of Haifa, was awarded to him in recognition of his commitment to education and higher education and his support for the study of the Mediterranean Sea at the University of Haifa
Last night (Sunday) the University of Haifa awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in honor of the entrepreneur and philanthropist Maurice Kahn in recognition of his commitment to education and higher education, his initiatives in the field of marine research and his support for the study of the Mediterranean Sea at the University of Haifa, which stands at the forefront of scientific research in the field of marine biology. The title was awarded to Kahn as part of Events of the 52nd Board of Trustees of Haifa University. "Morris Kahan is a visionary and action, who has contributed greatly to the promotion of the conservation of the marine environment and the study of the Mediterranean Sea and is an old and long-standing friend of the University of Haifa. Morris is a person who symbolizes the adherence to science and the belief in the power of science to have a positive effect on the entire human society," said Haifa University President Prof. Ron Rubin.
Kahn, one of the founders of Amdox, contributed a lot to the promotion of young leadership in Israel, to hospitals and research institutions. He is one of the biggest donors and supporters of the "Tzulul" association, which works to preserve and nurture water resources in Israel, and in 2008 he won the "Green Globe" award for life's work, the most prestigious award of all environmental organizations in Israel. His love for the sea and its preservation connected him to the University of Haifa, and throughout the last decade, he is a major contributor to the research station for the study of the Mediterranean Sea in Sdot Yam named after him. The station's researchers lead the research in Israel's deep waters and make a decisive contribution to the understanding of the ecosystem in the eastern Mediterranean, and especially of the shark population off the coast of Israel. In 2013, the University of Haifa awarded Kahn the leadership award.
Kahn is one of the main initiators and donors of the spaceil association, which set itself the goal of landing an Israeli probe on the moon in the "Bereshit" project, and he was even awarded a beacon on Israel's 71st Independence Day as a sign of appreciation for his contribution to the project.
Maurice Kahn was born in 1930 in South Africa and immigrated to Israel when he was 26. After about a decade in Israel, he began publishing the "Golden Pages" guide for the Ministry of Communications, a concept that would become familiar and known in every home in Israel. In the early 80s, he and his partners founded the company "Orek Information", the basis on which "Amdocs" was founded. Over the years, Kahn combined his business successes with helping and contributing to the community. He founded and contributes to the LEAD association, which works to develop young leadership in Israel, and over the years has helped thousands of young men and women fulfill their potential and make Israeli society a more just and fair society.
