ISRAELI SPACE SOCIETY
Summary of a meeting with the STMC team - School of Engineering, Tel Aviv, July 30.7.2003, XNUMX
Present on behalf of the Space Association: Tom Wagner, Dodi Zosiman, Oshera Seror, Oren Tirosh, Kobi Shoshan and Tal Inbar.
The meeting was held with Dr. Anna Heller (leader of the project) and the school students participating in the STMC (Space Technology Meyerhoff College) project.
The meeting included a presentation by representatives of the Space Association and an open discussion during it. The members of the Space Association described the association, provided a brief overview of the satellite system development process and presented the areas for cooperation in the project.
During the discussion, Dr. Heller described the project. Here are the main points of her speech:
• STMC is a project in which the students promote the field of space within the school.
• Dr. Heller leads the project and about 22 students participate in it (most of the students will enter the XNUMXth grade next year).
• STMC contains two main projects:
o Establishing a ground station to receive NOAA satellite transmissions (on VHF frequency) and analyze them.
o Development of a small satellite (nano-satellite) for research purposes.
• On the subject of satellite development
o Received the support of MTA and the Mbat plant (talked to Alex Kacheko).
o An amount of $6000 was raised for the project (mainly from private companies such as Elbit). Managed as an internal fund of the school.
o It is proposed to carry out an experiment to examine the spectrum of materials continuously during the satellite's stay in space.
• Presented difficulty in raising funds in general and from the university to which they belong in particular.
The members of the association offered their help in the following matters:
• Accompanying the characterization and development of the satellite.
• Help, as much as possible, in fundraising.
• Providing a public response to the activity.
• After initial characterization of the satellite, conducting a survey of potential launchers and making initial contacts with relevant launchers.
The STMC team gladly accepted Achi's proposals and it was decided by the parties to cooperate in promoting the projects.
A follow-up meeting was scheduled in which the experiments and systems that will be placed on the satellite will be chosen and its initial characteristics will be defined.
